La noche de San Juan - Saint John’s Eve (1)
Saint John’s Eve is one of the traditions related to fire in Spain. In the Mediterranean coast, it’s usual to see the celebrations in the beach as the tradition tells that you must bath (or at least put your feet into the water) in the sea. This tradition comes from pre-Roman times it’s deeply rooted in people’s behaviour. Late in the afternoon, people start to prepare their bonfires.
And it’s usual to take dinner in the beach. This year has coincided with a Spain’s football match of the EuroCup (Spain vs. France) and people arrange things to see that epic match (the first time that Spain defeated France). It’s curious to see the arrangement of people. Men at one side and in front looking the match, women at the other side just doing more interesting things.
But few hours later, the beach is occupied by bright spots, the bonfires.
From this moment onwards, all the attention is paid to the fire and friends.
And people start to wait for the magic hour.
